Karen Hilling, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)
Dr. Hilling was born and raised in Bedfordshire, England, and moved to Florida at the age of 15. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida, followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississippi State University in 2005. After graduation, Dr. Hilling completed a rotating internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists and Cancer Treatment Center, where she trained alongside specialists and developed a strong foundation in advanced patient care. She then completed a Small Animal Internal Medicine (SAIM) residency at Tufts University and became board certified in 2009.
Following her residency, Dr. Hilling has practiced as a veterinary internal medicine specialist in specialty and referral hospitals across Colorado. She has held multiple leadership roles, including Head of Internal Medicine Service and Intern Director, and has extensive experience managing challenging referral and medically complex patients. Her professional interests include immune-mediated diseases, hepatology cases, and gastrointestinal disorders, though she enjoys the breadth and variety that the field offers.
Outside of work, Dr. Hilling enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and spending time outdoors, which she shares with her husband. She shares her home with two mixed-breed dogs, Luna and Daisy, and two horses—Dutton, her handsome buckskin Quarter Horse gelding, and Phoenix, her Rocky Mountain gaited horse.
