Dr. Nicole V. Tusa

Dr. Tusa is a board-certified specialist in Emergency and Critical Care. She earned her DVM from the University of Georgia, completed a rotating internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and went on to complete a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Michigan State University. She has practiced in specialty referral hospitals and academic veterinary medicine, including serving as a locum criticalist at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Tusa has extensive experience managing critically ill and injured patients in high-volume emergency and intensive care settings and enjoys working alongside students, interns, residents, and veterinary technicians in both clinical and teaching environments.

Her professional interests include the management of complex ICU patients, sepsis, mechanical ventilation, transfusion medicine, neonatal and pediatric critical care, toxicities, IMHA/ITP (canine), urinary emergencies, and postoperative critical care. Dr. Tusa is passionate about clinical teaching and collaborative case management and enjoys helping veterinarians work through challenging emergency and critical care cases while building confidence in their clinical decision-making.

Dr. Tusa currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband and their dogs and cats, including their beloved Sphynx cat, Nosferatu. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys ballroom dancing, boxing, running, swimming, traveling, skiing, and spending time outdoors. She is particularly fond of cultivating roses and blueberries and is always planning her next adventure, whether it involves exploring a new destination, enjoying the mountains, or relaxing by the beach.
